The news has been filled with stories of sexual abuse, and it seems every day there’s a new accusation.  Having written THE EDUCATION OF DIXIE DUPREE, it only seems fitting I should say something.  Actually, I feel compelled to speak out about it.  Here are

While writing this book, I had to dig deep to try and picture living in a situation where you have access to…not much.  Food for instance.  In the Stamper’s situation, other than what they could grow, hunt, and kill or scavenge, this was the only

It’s been a while since I wrote a post about…writing. The truth is, writers are never not writing, ya know?  Even when I’m not telling you I’m writing – I am. Lately I’ve been working on a new project, and I’ve hit the halfway mark.

Over the holidays it got so busy I believe there were several times my brain and body disconnected.  Matter of fact, I know they did.  It was like I was on some sort of mental auto-pilot more than once. One of those moments happened when

…in with the new, as the old saying goes. Yesterday I took the tree and decorations down.  Some will think, but what about the Twelve Days of Christmas leading up to the Feast of Epiphany?  A twelve days of Christmas celebration never took place in

Book Stalker

Folks, I’m in the throes of making some minor revisions on BITTERSWEET and wrangling holiday decorations.  When I’m not doing that, I’m trolling the ‘net, stalking my book, trying to figure out how it’s doing.  Time for some tongue in cheek, debut writer shenanigans, I

And here we are…can you believe it?  It’s the finale of First Sentence Friday, and let me just say, this one’s a doozy! CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT I bet a year seems like an awfully long time when you’re sitting in jail. We are now three

This wasn’t an easy post to write.  I’ve sat on it for days, thinking about it, and wondering if I should write about this topic at all.  It’s likely (probably) premature for me to even think the way I am, but I’ve said before and

There’s this online place I visit, sometimes once a day, sometimes more – which is likely too much for my own writing good.  This online place is agent Janet Reid‘s blog.  I found her several years ago when I “entered” my serious writing stage.  Sometime

Okay, ya’ll.  I’m sorry for making this harder than I expected.  What was I thinking???  No winners, but thank you for making me laugh with some of your guesses. I could drag this on just to see what you come up with next, but I

Would you like a sneak peek at THE EDUCATION OF DIXIE DUPREE?  This is your chance to win a signed advance reader copy! The “contest” starts now (soon as I hit publish!) and goes on until I have three winners! The first three people to

I made no move to mark or signal in any way my father’s one year anniversary of passing.  About three days before the official day, Mom and I went out to the grave site and swapped out the Christmas flowers for a selection of silk

I’ve been working behind the scenes to transition my blog to a new and improved “website.”  Across the top you’ll see the new  “menu” items (The Book, About, Contact, etc.), but I’ve also chosen a theme I hope will represent this new part of my

Summer evening, late. The road traveled lies within city limits, moonlight over a pastured landscape, blackened shadows of barns line a ridge while cattle bed down within a barbed wire fence.  Along the road moves a car, sporty red, fairly new, the driver, a young

I’ve always loved books, but one in my hands today is not treated the same way as it was years ago.  When I used to start reading, I would sometimes peruse the dedication page, but most often I would jump right into the story. Not

Out In Public

Recently, fellow writer Carolynn (in some circles we call her 2N’s) Pianta talked in a three part series about special “messages” on her blog.  Granted I’ve had similar “messages” throughout my life, but today I’m here to talk about three separate “events” over the course

I’m not a slow reader, but when I saw my Goodreads stats for 2015, I stared at it for a second and thought, that’s it?  Twelve books?  I hastily skimmed over my “To Read” list just to make sure I’d not forgotten to categorize one

An update. Remember this post? It got worse before it got better.  Obviously we’d been hearing “noises” for a while.  After the last rant about this issue, we went right out and bought one of those Hav-A-Hart traps – only, we didn’t use it right

A lot has been happening here at the homestead.  I’ll call it post Thanksgiving madness with shopping (online and in stores) wrapping flurries, cleaning up flurries, with occasional writing flurries (current WIP @ 37K), all topped off with holiday parties to attend. This weekend I’ll

When I think about life events, I’ve considered how they might change a person.  I do this now, more than ever before.  What hits us most hard are the occurrences that mean we must conform to something new.  The death of a family member, friend
